Objective To explore the relationship between–262C/T polymorphism of catalase (CAT) gene and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) and diabetic coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods 292 unrelated subjects in Han Chinese of Shanghai were divided into two groups, i.e.,T2DM(n=209) group and non-DM-CHD control group with normal OGTT (n=83) and ECG. T2DM subjects were subdivided into non-CHD group [DM-CHD(-) group,n=92] and CHD group[DM-CHD(+)group,n=117], according to with or without CHD. DM-CHD(+)group were again subdivided into angina and mycardial infarction according to angina and mycardial infarction. PCR- RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) were used to detect genotypes .Genotypic , allelic frequencies and clinical characteristics were compared among the groups.Results①Two genotypes, i.e., CC and CT were detected, but no TT was detected in our study subjects for–262C/T polymorphism in CAT gene. The most frequent genotype and allele of the CAT–262C/T is CC and C.②The genotypic frequency in non-DM-CHD and T2DM group was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium law.③Althouth Genotypic and allelic frequencies were not significantly different between non-DM–CHD control and T2DM groups ,DM-CHD(-) and DM-CHD(+) ,angina and mycardial infarction in Han Chinese of Shanghai(P>0.05),there were signiticant diffferences in CAT-262C/T distribution between control in Han Chinese of Shanghai and control in St.Peters-burg or Moscow in Russian .Conclusions These results suggested that there were significant differences between Han Chinese of Shanghai and St.Peters-burg or Moscow in Russian in–262C/T polymorphism of CAT gene. This polymorphism was not associated with T2DM and diabetic coronary heart disease in Han Chinese of Shanghai .
