Hovenia acerba Lindl.is the dried ripe seeds of a member of family Hovenia Thunb. (Rhamnaceae) , maily distributed in China, Korea, Japan and India. It was described as slightly fragrant in ordor, nonpoisonous, sweet in taste and has functions of replenishing the live, edinebriating, clearing heat and diuresis, slaking thirst. So far, studies on the chemical constituents of Hovenia acerba Lindl. were reported only flavone. In order to ensure the rationality of developing and utilizing this sources, It is very important and instructive to study the chemical constitents systematically and establish the quality standard of active components .As the result of a systematical investigation of the chemical constituents from the seeds of Hovenia acerba Lindl,13 compounds were isolated from it by using open-colum (SiO2,polyamide,gel.).9 of 13 were identified as l-octacosanol (Ⅰ),eicosane acid (Ⅱ), stigmasterol (Ⅲ),β-Sitosterol (Ⅳ),3α-hydroxydeoxyartemisinin (Ⅴ),ceanothic acid (Ⅵ), naringenin (Ⅶ),myricetin (Ⅷ),dihydromyricetin (Ⅸ). CompoundⅤwas a new natural product, and compoundⅠ,Ⅲ,Ⅵ,Ⅶwere obtained from this genus for the first time. Furthermore,22 kinds of fatty acids and other constituents were identified by GC-MS,21 were discovered for the first time from this species. In addition, the determing the quantity of in the seeds of Hovenia acerba Lindl was established by HPLC. Method:Zorbax SB-C18 for column,MeOH:H2O:phosphoric acid(27:33:0.2)for mobile phase,290 nm detective length,1 ml/min for flow rate,25℃temperature. Result:for dihydromyricetin, the linear rang was from 4.12~65.92 ug·mL-1,average recovery rate 100.65%,RSD 1.63%,with precise accurate, recurrence and stability.
