Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is a kind of commonly encountered disease, frequently encountered disease for the sexual active stage wome n and women who have menstruation, it seldom occur for the women before m enarche, post-menopause or singlehood. It has the character tend to be pr olonged and intractable as well as recur easily. It's major complication contains dysgenesia, ectopic pregnancy, irregular menses, pelvic cavity v enous congestion and mental illness, etc. It is a tough problem for domes tic and foreign gyniatrics. Recently, with the change of sexual concept, the incidence of it sustains at a high level and does not drop, even tend to rise. Some experts and scholars declare CPID is a new challenge for t he health of women in this century. Therefore, reinforcing the study for CPID, exploring effective treatment has great practical importance. This study bases on years clinical experience of my mentor and systematic revi ew of the literature, employing therapeutic regimen of combining moxibust ion with taking Chinese material medica orally, aims at verifying the cli nical curative effect for CPID.Objective: The patients were treated with moxibustion and oral Chinese material medica, or oral Chinese material medica respectively, to assess the curative effect of moxibustion for CPID, the feasibility and clinical value of its application through comparing items before the treatment and items after the treatment such as the curative effect, course of treatment, compliance, recurrence rate, etc. Methods: This study according to the diagnostic criteria as well as criterion of scoring for sings and symptoms of TCM for CPID of Guidelines of clinical study for new drug of Chinese material medica issued by the Department of Health of the People' s Republic of China and administered in two thousand and two. We selected patients who met the criteria from the patients who received treatment in the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion as well as the Department of Gynecology in the first affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine between July, two thousand seven and January, two thousand eight. Sixty cases were brought into the study and randomly divided into the trial group (30 cases) as well as the control group (30cases). The trial group patients receive non-scar moxibustion combining with taking Chinese materia medica orally, the major point were Guanyuan, Guilai, Ciliao, Zigong, Sanyinjiao, Di ji, adding Ligou, Yinlingquan for damp-heat stagnation; adding Taichong, Geshu for qi stagnation and blood stasis; adding Shenshu, Qihai, Zhongji for stagnation of cold-dampness. Patient received treatment once a day, for thirty minute per time, fourteen times as a course of treatment, receiving three courses of treatment successively, combining with taking Chinese materia medica orally during the treatment. We treated damp-heat stagnation with compound recipe of Hongteng Bai jiang powder mainly, treating qi stagnation and blood stasis with seven proceedings Xiangfu pill or Xuefu Zhuyu Soup mainly, treating stagnation of cold-dampness with Shaofu Zhuyu soup mainly. Chinese materia medica was decocted by water once a day, making 300 ml soup. Patients took it orally in the morning and evening, fourteen times as a course of treatment, receiving three courses of treatment successively. The patients of control group received oral Chinese materia medica only, the medicine and method as above. We observed the curative effect after each course of treatment, assessing the curative effect by scoring criterion of quantization for symptom of TCM and regional sign before and after the treatment respectively. We analyzed the data with statistic software, comparing the results between groups and the results in the same groups. Results: Both groups have significant curative effect. The curative effect of trial group is better than that of the control group (P < 0.05), and it refer to all types of patients. The required course of treatment of the trial group is better than that of the control group (because of the limitation of cases in the sample, did not receive support from the statistic). Both groups have good effect in the incidence of adverse effect, recurrence rate and compliance of the patients. Conclusions: Moxibustion not only can improve the inflammation significantly, but also can upgrade the cure rate and effective power for all types of CPID. The study indicated that the treatment of moxibustion refer to patients of every age classes. In a word, moxibustion is a good treatment for CPID, with high curative effect and little adverse effect as well as low recurrence rate, working quickly, without toleration, is a simple, inexpensive and green therapy, having high clinical applicable value.
