ObjectiveTo assess prevalence and distribution and factors of psychiatric disorders among 6-17 year olds in Liaoning province.Objects and MethodsStratified multi-stage cluster randomization was used to identify 2 cities(Benxi, Panjin)and 2 countries(Qingyuan,Donggang).Using a two-phase design,6720 children aged 6-17 were interviewed useing the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ)and Development and Well-Being Assessment(DAWBA).In the first phase,screening papers were sent to adolescent aged 11-years above, parent,teacher of adolescent aged 6-17.In the second phase,interview the adolescent 11-years above,parent and teacher of 6-17 years with Development and Well-Being Assessment.Input data into the computer,two experienced psychiatrists review the computer program and make diagnosis according to DSM-Ⅳ,ICD-10 separately,and rediscussion the result when two results are different.ResultsIn the first phase,the respond rate of adolescent,parent,teacher was 97.53%, 95.75%,98.29%separately.14.94%were screening positive.A second phase sample of 1409 was identified for recruitment into the interview phase of the study with a respond rate of adolescent 95.22%,parent 81.2%,teacher 94.54%.The prevalence of psychiatric disorders among adolescent in Liaoning province is 1.88%,there were no significant differences between prevalence of the city and country(x~2=0.786,P>0.05), psychiatric disorders were significantly more frequent in boys than in girls(x~2=9.606, P<0.05),and were significantly more frequent in 13-17 year olds.Anxiety disorders (2.15%)are more common than other disorders,followed by disruptive disorder (0.86%),depressive disorder(0.67%).Depression disorder,hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder were were significantly more frequent in boys than in girls. Prevalence of anxiety disorder and depression disorder increased with age,behavior disorders decreased with age.Univariate logistic regression showed that sex,age, happiness about life,emotion abuse,physical abuse,violence on mother,education level of parent,discrepancy attitude towards education between parents,academic score,emotional abuse from teacher,bully is related to emotional disorder and behavioral disorder.Multi-logistic regression suggested that male,elderly,violence on mother,poor mental health of parents,low family income,different attitudes towards education of parent,low academic score are main factors for emotional disorder;male, younger age,poor mental health of mother are main factors to behavioral disorder.ConclusionsThe prevalence of psychiatric disorders among adolescents in Liaoning province is 1.88%.No significant difference was observed between city and country,disorders were significantly more frequent in boys than girls,and were significantly more frequent in 13-17 year olds.Sex,age,happiness of life,emotional abuse,physical abuse is associate with emotional and behavioral disorder.Male,poor mental health of mother has a significant association with psychiatry disorder of adolescent in Liaoning province.
