Objective: To estimate the prevalence of GI in the general population in Wuhan and obtain the characteristics of distribution. To characterize the risk factor of GI.Methods: A randomized stratified multi-stage cluster sampling method was used to select the survey sites. By using the method of simple random sampling,we have selected 3600 residents aged from 18 to 80 in the sampled residential areas. The questionnaires contained RDQ and Rome II, and GI was diagnosed according to Rome II. The prevalence of GI was calculated and the Logistic regression analysis was performed to study the potential risk factors of GI. The database was constructed with Epidata 3.02. Statistical software, SAS 8.2, was used for data analysis.Results:1,3567 people were involved in this investigation, the history prevalence of GERD,dyspepsia, dysphasia, gastritis, peptic ulcer,GBD,IBS,IBD and esophageal carcinoma or gastric carcinoma were 2.16%,6.57%,0.73%,11.21%,4.74%,2.97%,0.20%,2.16% and 0.06%,respectively.2. The overall prevalence of GI was 17.41%. The prevalence of GERD,the rumination syndrome, the FD,the aerophagia, the IBS,the functional abdominal bloating, the functional constipation and the functional diarrhea were 2.94%,1.26%,5.07%,2.47%,4.12%,4.29%,7.04% and 0.73%,respectively.3. The prevalences were different in different genders, regions and ages. The prevalence of the female was significantly higher than that of the male (18.90%>15.57%, P=0.0092) and the prevalence of countryside was higher in contrast of the city (20.74%>13.95%,P<0.0001). The prevalence showed a gradually rising trend with the increasing age. The overlapping rate of GI was 37.38%. 4. The potential risk factors of GI were: the level of education, the status of health, the ability of daily activity, the situation of spirit and family history of GI in the city. The adjusted ORs were 0.861,1.610,1.254,1.292 and 1.427; Contrast in the countryside, the potential risk factors of GI were: gender, age, the status of health, the rate of daily work intensity, the situation of spirit and the family history of GI. The adjusted ORs were 1.370,1.154,1.312,1.121,1.186 and 1.558, respectively. Conclusion:By using the Romaâ…¡diagnostic questionnaire, the overall prevalence of GI in Wuhan was 17.41%, 15.57% in the male, 18.90% in the female, 13.95% in the city and 20.74% in the countryside, respectively. The prevalence of the female was higher than that of the male, and the prevalence in the countryside was higher than that in the city. The prevalence showed a gradually rising trend with the increasing age. The phenomenon of disease overlapping existed in GI. The prevalence of GI in Wuhan was lower than other areas of China, but the people with GI had low visit rates. In conclusion, the life-behavior styles may be closely related to GI.
