| Objective: To observe the Influence of Xinsimiao Decoction (XD) on Serum Cytokines Levels in Rheumatoid Arthritis through clinical and experimental research. Method: In clinical research, 60 cases were devided randomly in 2 groups. The treating group was treated with XD and the control group was treated with Xinhuang Tablets (XT). Clinical evidence in Traditional Chinese Medicine, symptoms and signs, health assessment questionnaire(HAQ), NO, NOS, iNOS, ESR, RF ,CRP and Cytokines Levels such as IL-1, IL-8, TNFα,IL-10 in serum were observed. In experimental research, 40 male rats were divided randomly in 4 groups which were treating group, control group, model group and blank group. Adjuvant Arthritis (AA) model were established in the rats and the swelling rate of metatarsophalangeal joint and cytokines were observed. Results: In clinical research, the total effective rates of treating group was 82.76% and that of clinical evidence of in Traditional Chinese Medicine of treating group was 85.71 % which has no remarkable difference with that of control group (P>0.05) . The serum levels of IL-1, IL-8, NO, NOS, iNOS and IL-10 of treating group were improved after treatment (P＜0.05) . In animal experiments, XD could inhibit the original and secondary arthritis of AA rat and improve serum levels of IL-1, IL-8, IL-10, TNFα, NOS andi NOS. Conclusion: XD could treat RA effectively by inhibiting serum levels of IL-1, IL-8, TNFα, NO and iNOS and increasing that of IL-10.
