Objective: To investigate the expression of c-fos and c-jun in primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma and to evaluate whether these alterations could provide clinical significant informations.Methods: The expression of c-fos and c-jun was studied by Streptavidin-peroxidase(s-p) immunohistochemical methods in 9 cases normal ovary tissues, 9 cases primary epithelial innocence ovarian tumor, 9 borderline ovarian tumor samples and 59 cases primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma.Results:1.The positive expression of c-fos and c-jun protein not only located at cell nucleus but also located at endochylema and intercellular substance in normal ovary tissues, primary epithelial innocence ovarian tumors, borderline ovarian tumors and primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma.2. The positive rate of c-fos protein in innocence ovarian tumors, borderline ovarian tumors and carcinoma Samples was 3/9,9/9,78.0%(46/59) respectively . The negative expression of c-fos protein in normal ovary tissues. In carcinoma and borderline ovarian tumors ,the positive expression of c-fos protein were significantly higer than normal tissues. In carcinoma the positive expression of c-fos protein were significantly higer than innocence ovarian tumors and borderline ovarian tumors( P < 0.05). In the different tumor grade carcinoma samples, the positive expression of c-fos protein were 91.7% (22/24),68.6 % respectively .There were significant different between each groups. In the different clinical stage of the carcinoma samples, the positive expression of c-fos protein were 72.7% (16/22),81.1 % (30/37) . There were no significant relationship with either clinical stage (P>0.05) .3. There were 2 cases positive expression of c-jun in normal ovary tissues (2/9) . The positive rate of c-jun protein in innocence ovarian tumors, borderline ovarian tumors and carcinoma samples was 4/9,8/9,88.1%(52/59) respectively . In carcinoma and borderline ovarian tumors ,the positive expression of c-jun protein were significantly higer than normal tissues. In carcinoma the positive expression of c-jun protein were significantly higer than innocence ovarian tumors (P < 0.05 ). In the different tumor grade carcinoma samples, the positive expression of c-fos protein were 100%(24/24),80.0 % (28/35) respectively .There were significant different between each groups( P < 0.05) . In the different clinical stage of the carcinoma samples, the positive expression of c-jun protein were 86.4% (19/22),89.2 % (33/37) respectively. There were no significant relationship with either clinical stage (P>0.05) .4. In carcinoma samples, the expression of c-fos protein was positively correlated with that of c-jun(spearman rho 0.311, P=0.017). Conclusions: 1.The low-positive expression of c-fos and c-jun protein is in normal ovary tissues. c-fos and c-jun may play a role in the regulation of cell cycle.2. c-fos and c-jun may play a cooperative role in the primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma, which show that c-fos and c-jun may to participate in tumor initiation and progression.3. The experiment can not to explain thoroughly that c-fos and c-jun may play an important role in the early stage of primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma.
