Objective To investigate the status of family function,copingstyles and mental health of normal pregnant women in YueYang City, andexplore the relationship among these three variables and the factorsinfluencing family function, so as to provide theoretical evidence forpsychological health for pregnant women and their families.Methods 300 pregnant women from four hospitals in YueYangCity were selected by cluster random sampling to fill in thequestionnaires bag, which included: The Pregnant Women GeneralInformation and the Relative Factors Survey, the Simplified Coping StyleQuestionnaire (SCSQ) by Xie yaning, Family APGAR Index (APGAR)and SCL-90. Descriptive analysis, T Test, completely randomizeddesign analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis and Multiplelinear stepwise regression analysis were preformed using the StatisticalPackage for Sccial Science (SPSS) 12.0.Results 1. three hundred pregnant women participated in thesurvey, and 280 records were obtained, creating a completion rate of93.3%. 2. 62.5% of pregnant women have a good family function,while33.2% have a relatively compromise family function,and only 4.3%have a quite bad family function among 280 pregnant women. 3. Therewere significant differences of family function score in different groupsdivided by age, occupation, marital relationship, the degree of nausea andvomiting of pregnancy, pre-pregnancy health, her husband and familysupport and satisfaction with the living conditions (P<0.05). 4.Themain influential factors of family function were marital relationship(b'=-0.203) and satisfaction degree with the living conditions for pregnant women (b'=-0.145). 5. The average scores of the active copingstyle and negative coping style were 1.61±0.56 and 1.13±0.48, bothscores were significantly lower than the national coping norm of adults(P<0.01). 5. All the factors score of the SCL-90 were significantlyhigher than the national norm groups of adults, By comparison, therewere significantly differences in the SCL-90 total average scores andthe other factors score except the factor of interpersonal communication(P<0.01). The family function was negatively correlated with theSCL-90 total average scores and the other factors score except the factorsof body symptom and hostile (P<0.05, P<0.01). The negative copingstyle was positively correlated with the SCL-90 total average scores andthe other factors score(P<0.01). 7.The Affection and Resolve of thefamily function was positively correlated with the active coping style.Conclusions 1. In general,62.5% of pregnant women have a goodfamily function,while 33.2%have a relatively compromise familyfunction,and only 4.3% have a quite bad family function among 280pregnant women. 2.Marital relationship and satisfaction degree with theliving conditions for pregnant women were the influencial factors offamily function, to improve marital relationship and the living conditionscan enhance the family function of pregnant women. 3. The mental healthstatus of pregnant women was related to family function and negativecoping styles. 4. The healthy family function profit the formation ofactive coping styles.
