Chronic Prostatitits is a prevalent and multifactorial condition.According to its symptoms, it might be classified into chronic bacterialprostatitis (Category II), chronic abacterial prostatitis (Category IIIA) andprostatodynia (Category IIIB). Little is known about the etiology andpathogenesis of the disease despite a vast amount of research and hypotheseswere made and advocated. Clinical symptoms mainly characterized by voidingdisorders of dysuria, frequency, urgency, urinary waiting, urinary dripping, excretion after urination, nocturia, and vague pain, bearing-down pain orgas pain to the parts in the inferior belly, perineum, lumbosacral area andscrotum. It is a common illness which has affected the daily life of adultmales. The global morbidity rate is 9%-14%, making up 30-40% of the andrologyclinic service. Males in different phase throughout their life are subjectedto be troubled by chronic prostatitis. Though the disease will not cause dangerto life, it' s complications cause variable disorders, such as erectiledysfunction, premature ejaculation and infertility. At the same time, it mightalso cause to the patients psychologic obstacle, which would seriously affecttheir quality of life. At the present stage, therapeutic options are notlacking, particularly on CP (IIIB), but all curative effects seem not soobvious. This study is mainly based on the clinical experiment to observe thetherapeutic effects of Qiantongding Decoction as prescribed by Professor ChenDening for curing CP (IIIB) in parallel with TCM "stagnation of qi and bloodstasis". Professor Chen advocated an original view of curing CP by the livermeridian. His clinical therapy has provided a new point of view, and henceenriches the foundation of TCM. It has not only served the patients better, but has also promoted their quality of life. Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacies of Qiantongding Decoction onPatients with CP (IIIB).Methods:A total of 107 patients who met the consensus criteria for CP/CPPS werestrictly enrolled into this experiment. They were randomly divided into theexperimental group and control group. The EG was given an oral dosage ofQiantongding Decoction (composed of Chinese thorowax, white peony root, fruitof citron, yanhusuo, chinaberry fruit, tangerine seed, root of three-nervedspicebush, peach kernel, safflower, root of red rooted salvia, bark ofcorktree, Asiatic plantain seed, and licorice root), to be taken twice daily. The control group took one pill (25mg) of indometacin three times daily. Courseof treatment for both groups was one month and all other related medicine aswell as treatments were suspended. Before and after the treatment, expressedprostatic secretionwas taken for laboratory purpose and NIH-CPSI forms werefilled in for scores marking. Results:Quality of life for patients with CP (IIIB) was relatively low, and the averagescores of NIH-CPSI is 24.5. Functions of their prostate glands were weakened, and mean prostasomes in the prostatic fluid was 1.3+/HP. There was improvementon symptoms for both groups after taking medicine, and scores marking ofNIH-CPSI had decreased. The difference of both groups had statisticalsignificance (P<0.05) in comparison before treatment, but the EG showed moreobvious improvement, both groups had difference of statistical significance(P<0.05) in comparison after treatment. More obvious changes were shown inthe prostasomes of EG and the difference when comparing had statisticalsignificance (P<0.05) before treatment, while the changes of control groupwas not obvious, and the difference had no statistical significance (P>0.05)in comparison before treatment.Conclusions:1. Quality of life for patients with CP(IIIB) are generally low and functionsof their prostate glands are weakening.2. Qiantongding Decoction has a better effect in ameliorating symptoms of thepatients, and helps to promote the patients' quality of life.3. Qiantongding Decoction allows the free passage of qi and blood circulation,as well as to improving functions of the prostate glands by means of restoring the normal flow of liver qi and promoting blood flow to remove obstructionin the collaterals.
