A Comparison Of Therapeutic Effect Between Segmental Buckling With Nondrainage Of Subretinal Fluid Surgery And Scleral Buckling Surgery

Objective To observe the effect of surgery with segmentalbuckling of nondrainage of subretinal fluid(SRF) and drainage of SRF forrhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD). And to compare thetherapeutic effect of the two operation methods.Methods The records of a series of 184 select patients from June,2003 to December ,2004 with RRD and proliferate vitreoretinopathy(PVR) less than stage C₂ underwent segmental buckling of nondrainagesurgery and scleral buckling,drainage of SRF were reviewed. All thepatients were divided into two groups: drainage of SRF and nondrainageof SRF. The difference of rate of retinal reattachment ,and therelationship between the reattachment and the grade of PVR in bothgroups were analysed ,and the complications, postoperative visionacuity were compared.The average follow-up period was 8.6mons(2mons～2ys).Results The rate of retinal reattachment in the drainage group was91.3%(84/92) and in the nondrainage that was 93.5%(86/92).There wasno statistical difference of rate of retinal reattachment between the twogroups.while the the complications in group drainage was 16.3%, ingroup nondrainge that was 2.1%, the complications in group nondrainagewas significantly lower than in group drainage. Postopertive vision acuity increasing in group drainge was 50.0%(46/92),in group nondrainge was85.0%(79/92). The postopertive vision acuity increasing in groupnondrainge was significantly higher than in group drainge.Conclutions The segmental buckling of nondrainage of SRF hasthe same retinal reattachment as scleral buckling does,and it showed anoutstanding improvement of postopertive vision acuity and lesscomplications. It is an important improvement of operation procedure.
