Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of lateralperitoneal laparoscopic adernalectomy and to compare the clinical value among lateralperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy and open adrenalectomy for the treatment of adrenal tumors. Methods: From January 2005 to January 2007,laparoscopic adrenalectomy(LCA) was performed for 104 cases, during the same period 78 patients with adrenal tumours underwent open adrenalectomy. The procedure was evaluated and compared in the respects of tumors diameter, operation time, blood loss, drainage amount after operation, use of antalgesic, hospital stay postoperation and average charge of the hospitalization among two groups. Results: There were 89 successful cases in laparoscopic adrenalectomy group, while open adrenalectomy were all secceeded. The average tumors diameter, average operation time, average blood loss, drainage amount after operation, use of antalgesic, average hospital stay postoperation and average charge of the hospitalization were 2.8cm, 122.6min, 48.0ml, 88.0ml, 65 cases, 5.1days and 14380RMB in LCA group. While the datas in open group were 3.1cm, 104.8min, 89.2ml, 160.5ml, 132 cases, 8.9d and 12156RMB. The average blood loss in operation, drainage amount after operation, average hospital stay postoperation and use of antalgesic in LCA group were significant less than open group (P<0.05) . The average operation time and average charge of the hospitalization in open group were less than LCA group (P<0.05 ) . The average tumors diameter had no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05) .Conclusions: There were longer time cost and some complications in earlier period of laparoscopic adrenalectomy. Then with the development of instruments and manipulating skills, time cost in most LCA cases could be equal to even shorter than open operation. Other preponderances superior to open operation: shortage of hospitalization time and the resume of normal activities.
