ObjectiveThis study detected the expression of Survivin, a novel inhibitor of apoptosis,in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, to investigate the relation between the expression of Survivin and clinical features of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to provide a theoretic basis of oncogenesis,, response to radiaotherapy , prognosis and progression for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.MethodsImmunohistochemical staining of Survivin was performed by the standard MaxvisionTM two-step technique for the paraffin section of 128 nasopharyngeal low differentiation squamous-cell carcinoma in 1996-2001 .The Specimens were obtained before irradiation. The clinic datas were analyzed by retrospective analysis, we detected the expression of Survivin in these tissues. Disease stages were determined by the TNM classification according to fuzhou criteria(1992). TNM stagesr:Ⅰ 10 case, Ⅱ 19 case, Ⅲ 44 case, Ⅳ 55 case. Male 81 cases, female 47 cases;age 18 — 67, average age 47.2. Lymph node metastasis 102 cases, non — lymph node metastasis 26 cases. All specimens were approved by pathologist in jiangxi provincial tumor hospital.
