| Objective:The purpose of this study : 1.to investigate the level of social anxiety among nursing students; 2.to explore the relationship among social anxiety, self-efficacy and self-disclosure; 3.to suggest some approaches of reforming social anxiety of nursing students; 4. to bring forward some suggestions for the education system of nursing school so as to increase nursing students' quality ,and reduce the occurrence of social anxiety. Method:A correlational study with an objective and anonymous sample of 880 students major in nursing was recruited. Xiehe Medical University, Shandong University, Qingdao University, Weifang Medical College were adopted as the setting for data collection.Three questionnaires including Social Anxiety Scale, Self-efficacy scale, Distress Disclosure Index were used for data collection. SAI was made to investigate Chinese university students, and demonstrated good reliability and validity. Sum and SD were used to describe the level of social anxiety; regression was used to describe how self-efficacy and self-disclosure affect social anxiety. Relations among them were expressed in Pearson correlation coefficients. A p value of less than and equal to 0. 05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 1. Out of 880 nursing students, 852 completed the questionnaires. And the effective response rate is 96.8%.2. The experimental group had a mean score of 43.15 (SD=9. 368) and the model group had a mean score of 44. 34(SD=11.34), p<0.01.3. Students manager vs. non-students managerAs can be observed , there was statistically significant difference between the social anxiety scores, general self-efficacy scores, social self-efficacy scores rated by students manager and non-students manager. And also the scores of self-disclosure of the students manager was higher than non-students manager, but with no significant difference.4. students from countryside vs. students from cityAn independent-samples t test indicated that there was no significant difference on the SAI scores(P>0.05). But SSES scores (p<0. 05)and DDI scores (p<0. 01)had statistically significant.5. Undergraduates vs. college studentsResults indicated that there was no difference on the SAI,SES,DDI scores between undergraduate students and college nursing students.6. The correlation among SAI, SES and DDI scores were examined. The results indicated that SAI scores had significant difference correlated with GSES scores(r=-0.551, p<0.01), SSES scores(r=-0.473, p<0. 01), DDI scores (r=-0.124, p<0.01). the results indicated that the higher the students' self-efficacy and self-disclosure, the lower the level of social anxiety. Conclusions:1. Nursing students had lower social anxiety compared with the female university students model.2. The social anxiety of nursing students are significantly related with the self-efficacy and self-disclosure. The higher the self-efficacy is, the lower social anxiety students have. So does self-disclosure.3. There was statistically significant difference between the social anxiety scores, general self-efficacy scores, social self-efficacy scores rated by students manager and non-students manager. And compared with students from the countryside, students from the city had higher social self-efficacy and self-disclosure. But there were no significant difference when comparing nursing undergraduate students and college students; also did the students of each grade.4. Pay attention to the psychological health of the nursing students. Try to cultivate multiple-developed and capable students through rich campus activities and jobs in order to prevent and reduce social anxiety . |
