| Background and objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic and degenerative joint disease which is characterized by progressive loss and reparation and remodeling of articular cartilage. OA was considered as one of the major degenerative diseases which are affecting the quality of life of the public due to population aging. At present in the clinic, many therapeutic methods were authenticated having side-effects and poisons to the elders. So Chinese traditional treatments have turned into the hotspots of which prevent and cure OA. As one of the Chinese traditional treatments, moxibustion is widely used in clinics in China and does well in therapeutic effectiveness with comfort and convenience, and without side effects, but it is hard of international popularization due to undefined mechanisms of action. Whether acting on some links between IL-1 to apoptosis; how to be chosen between moxibustion and far infrared ray, these questions went into the eyes of doctors.
