Objective: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of CD40 and Caspase-9 in the spleen of cirrhotic protal hypertension. Methods: Using S-P immunohistochemistry method to examine the expression of CD40 and Caspase-9 in the specimens of 50 cases with cirrhotic protal hypertension and 15 cases with normal spleen. Results: The CD40 and Caspase-9 positive rates in the normal spleen were 86.7% and 26.7% respectively, while in the cirrhotic spleen the positive rates were 36.0% and 76%.There was a significant difference between the groups(P<0.05).The positive rate of CD40 in the normal spleen (Child A of liver function) was 86.7%,while the rates were 39.5% and 25% in the spleen of Child B and Child C.The positive rates declined with the worsening of liver function. The positive rate of CD40 in the spleen of I type was 45.5%,while the rates were 37.5% and 30.4% in the spleen of II type and IIItype. The positive rates declined with the rise of cirrhotic splenic types. There was a negative correlation between the expression of CD40 and Child types of liver function and cirrhotic splenic types(P<0.05).The positive rate of Caspase-9 in the normal spleen (Child A of liver function) was 26.7%,while the rates were 71.1% and 83.3% in...
