Objective: (1) To investigate the job burnout status of nurses. (2) To carry on the cross-cultural study on the job demands-resource model, which will provide a theoretic base and help to relieve the job burnout status of nurses for managers. Methods: The nurses were assessed by Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory and self-made job demands-resources questionnaire, and then adopt SPSS 13.0 and LISRIL 8.54 to deal with them. Results: (1) The job demands of nurses are made up of physical workload, emotional demand, mentality, environment, shift-work and time. The job resources of nurses are made up of social support, decision participation, job control, rewards and task variety. (2) 68.83 percent nurses are in the job burnout status, while 53.70 percent are in mild status, 13.27 percent are in moderate status and 1.85 percent are in absolute status. The checking-out rate of the nurses on the job burnout status in Emergency Department is 80.80%, which is the highest rate, and then nurses in Medical Department, Surgical Department, and Outpatient Department in turn. (3) There is an individual difference in the nurses' emotional exhaustion dimension, depersonalization dimension, whereas, there is no individual difference in lack of personal accomplishment dimension. (4) The long and enormous work demand for nurses affects emotional exhaustion directly, their work demand affects depersonalization through emotional exhaustion indirectly, and the work demand has a negative effect on depersonalization; The lack of external resources (including social support, job control and rewards) affects depersonalization directly, while the lack of internal resources (including decision participation and task variety) affects the lack of personal accomplishment directly; The occurring of nurses' emotional exhaustion promotes the occurring of depersonalization, The lack of personal accomplishment occurs separately. Conclusion: The rate of the job burnout status of nurses is high, there is a difference beyond culture in the job demands-resources model of job burnout status of nurses. So according to the condition of China, managers must lower the level of nurses' job burnout through adjusting the work demand and enriching their work resources.
