Objective To probe the changes and clinical significances of interleukin-13 and interleukin-15 in children with Henoch-Schoenlein purpura(HSP).Methods Plasma IL-13 and IL-15 were detected in 61 children with HSP in acute phase and 25 normal children by ELISA.The level of plasma IL-13 and IL-15 in different clinical categories of HSP were compared. Results ①Plasma IL-13 levels in children with HSP in acute phase[ (4.8±3.1) pg/ml] were significantly higher than those in healthy controls[ (2.0±1.6) pg/ml](t=4.28,P<0.01);plasma IL-13 levels in patients with or without renal involvement of HSP[(7.5 ± 5.9)pg/ml, (3.2±2.5)pg/ml] were all significantly higher than those in healthy controls ( F=53.92, p<0.01;q=13.87, 3.40, p<0.01 or 0.05);the plasma IL-13 levels in patients with renal involvement were significantly higher than those of without renal involvement (F=53.92, p<0.01;q = 11.86, p<0.01) .②Also,plasma IL-15 levels of HSP group[ (17.5±10.2) pg/ml] are significantly higher than those of controls[ (4.2±3.5) pg/ml] (t=6.34, P<0.01);both plasma IL-15 levels with and without renal involvement[ (29.1 ± 16.5) pg/ml, (10.5 ± 7.4) pg/ml] were significantly higher than those in healthy controls(F=40.45, p< 0.01;q=12.18, 3.46, p<0.01);the plasma IL-15 levels in patients with renal involvement were significantly higher than those of without renal involvement (F=40.45, p<0.01;q= 9.95, p <0.01) .Conclusions Plasma IL-13 and IL-15 levels in acute phase of HSP significantly increased, and the levels in patients with renal involvement were significantly higher than those of without renal involvement. These results suggested that IL-13 and IL-15 play a crucial role in pathogenesis of HSP. The plasma IL-13 and IL-15 level changes may have correlation with nephritis of HSP.
