Objective Comprehensive and comparative analyses were focus on the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of chronic pancreatitis(CP), for enhancing our understanding of this disease. Methods In 2000-2005 years, thirty patients were confirmed CP by clinical or pathology in The Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. These patients were retrospectively studied, including investigation of their associated etiological factors, clinical features, diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Results Alcoholic pancreatitis happened more than biliary chronic pancreatitis. The most common symptoms were abdominal pain, decrease body weight and indigestion. The major imageology features were distension of pancreatic duct, pancreatic lump, calcification of pancreas, pancreatic duct stone and pseudocyst. In the group, sixteen patients were symptomatic relief after conservation treatment, fourteen patients suffered less after operation therapies. Conclusions The rate of alcoholic chronic pancreatitis is increasing gradually. It is short of specific clinical manifestation. Imaging procedures play the most important role in diagnosis, the histopathology is gold standard of diagnosis. Now specific therapy of CP is deficient, non-operation therapies are the main methods to treat CP.
