Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of acupuncture in combination with traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of ischemia apoplectic hemiplegia. Meanwhile to study the possible mechanisms. Methods: 90 patients enrolled were randomly divided into 3 groups. The patients with ischemia apoplectic hemiplegia randomly were divided into composite treatment group(acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine group), traditional Chinese medicine and routine medicine groups, 30 cases each. Based on the routine medicine, routine medicine group only give the basic treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine group was treated with Tong nao decoction, the composite treatment group was treated with Tong nao decoction combined with acupuncture. The patients' clinical effect, motor function of paralytic limb and hemorheology and serum lipid were evaluated before and after treatment. Results: 1)The total clinical effective rate was 80% in routine medicine group, 83.3% in traditional Chinese medicine group, and 90% in the composite treatment group. After treatment there were differences in clinical effect and motor function of paralytic limb between the composite treatment group and the traditional Chinese medicine group, the routine medicine group (P<0.05). 2)The scores of Fugl-Meye Assessment (FMA) were difference between pretreatment and posttreatment in all the three groups. There were statistical difference (P<0.01)in the composite treatment group than in the traditional Chinese medicine group and routine medicine group. 3)Hemorheologyand serum lipid of the composite treatment group, traditional Chinese medicine and routine medicine group were improved in varying degrees, but the composite treatment group have a good effect P<0.01. 4)The marker of CRP in three groups were improved between pretreatment and posttreatment, but there were not different in three groups. Conclusion: 1 )Acupuncture in combination with traditional Chinese medicine has a better effect than simple traditional Chinese medicine and routine medicine on ischemia apoplectic hemiplegia. 2)The hemorheology and serum lipid of the acupuncture in combination with traditional Chinese medicine were obviously promoted, and this may be the material basis. 3)There was no superiority in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine to improve the CRP. 4)Acupuncture in combination with traditional Chinese meddicine is one of the superiority, could improve the effectiveness, and gain a good functional prognosis in ischemia apoplectic patients.
