Study About Construction And Administration Of Elective Courses System In Military Medical Universities

Elective courses, which have a complementary relation with specialized required courses, are important components of higher medical education. Elective courses can improve the flexibility of medical course system, and promptly reflect the tendency of the development of medical science and model. They have special position and function in the aspects of broadening students' knowledge, improving quality education, nurturing students' learning interest, self study ability and spirit of bringing forth new ideas. Elective course system is a combination of structure and function of elective courses. It meets the needs of a certain group of talents and reaches the goal of nurturing talents through arranging and connecting a series of elective courses. Nowadays, military medical talents should have not only profound military medical knowledge, techniques and quality, but also broad social science basis, hard development potential and adept modern information technology. In addition, education of military medical talents has special requirements of setting up the elective courses, for example, developing the quality and ability of taking the responsibility of guaranteeing health and service under the condition of modern war. But the present elective course system is not perfect, for instance, large proportion of specialized courses, small proportion ofelective courses; many traditional courses, few new and crossed courses; many basic theories, few skills and techniques; many general medical courses, few military medical courses; much intelligence education, little non-intelligence education. Therefore, how to construct an elective course system which could meet the needs of military medical talents demands prompt solution.This research is based on the investigation of present situation of opening elective courses in Chinese colleges and universities. Through investigating present elective courses of the Fourth Military Medical University, this research notices the demands of military medicine and influence of high-tech local war and development of medical education on military medicine. It analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of present military media course system. Combined with the characteristics of education in military medical universities, this research contains literature investigation, questionnaire survey, statistical analysis, and consultation and study of relevant papers and works about the influence of modern society on military medical talents and present situation and tendency of elective course system in domestic and overseas military medical universities. In this research, we design a questionnaire about situation and improvement of elective courses in military medical universities, which is in accordance with teachers and students' attitudes towards elective courses, and then we distribute it according to the stratification and groups. Based on the descriptive and analytical study on the results of the questionnaire survey, we find out the needs of students in military medical universities about opening elective courses and determine the elective courses which should be opened in the present military medical universities. We adopt expert grading, expert consultation and statistical methods, the total marks of teachers and students' opinion about every elective course are obtained.
