Objective: Intrauterine device (IUD) is one of effective contraceptive methods for the women of childbearing age in China which are widely used. Inserting IUD can lead to cyclic menstrual bleeding that is excessive in amount or duration and intermenstrual bleeding. That is endometrorrhagia which is caused by IUD-wearing. It is the main reason which decrease the using rate of IUD. This experimental objective is to explore the mechanism of Radix Notoginseng and Radix Rubiae complex prescription based on promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis for treating endometrorrhagia caused by Cu-IUD, and to study the effect of SQ complex prescription on endometrial histomorphology of rabbits wearing Cu-IUD, and to dicuss the mechanism of action in SQ complex prescription, and provide experimental foundation for the therapy of this disease. Methods: The rabbits were randomly devided into seven groups: normal group, sham-operation group, model group, indomethacin group, high dosage group of SQ complex precription , middle dosage group of SQ complex precription , low dosage group of SQ complex precription . Cu-IUD-Wearing rabbit models were established. In contrast with indomethacin, we investigated the effects of SQ complexe prescription on endometrialhistomorphology of Cu-IUD-wearing rabbits. The morphologic changes of endometrial superficial blood vessels and epithelia and interstial portion were observed under light microscope. The changes of ultrastructure of vascular endometheliocyte and smooth muscle cell of endometrium were observed under electron microscope. Results: SQ complexe prescription can improve congestion of endometrial blood vessels and decrease the inflammatory cells and exudation of the endometrium and repair the damage of endometrium. It can improve edema and vacuolation of mitochondria of vascular endotheliocyte and vascular smooth muscle cell. Conclusion: The results indicate that endometrorrhagia caused by Cu-IUD can be prevented and cared effectively with SQ complex prescription through restoring and protecting the endometrium of Cu-IUD-wearing rabbit.
