Effects Of Compound Ion Salt On Blood Pressure And Other Related Factors In The Old People

Objective: To study the effects of compound ion salt on the blood pressure and other related factors in the old people without reducing daily consumption of salt; we try to discuss the efficiency of compound ion salt and its safety.Methods: A total 226 old people in the community were assigned to hypertensive group (112) and normotensive group (114). Each group was randomly divided into two subgroups. One-subgroup intaked compound ion salt and the other consumed common salt. Their blood pressure was measured at 0,2,4 and 6month after initial intervention. The 24 hours urine electrolyte, plasma renin activity (PRA), plasma angiotensin II, blood lipid, blood glucose, plasma insulin, intra-erythrocyte Na+,K+,Ca2+ and Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activity were measured on baseline and after 6 months.Results: l.The compound ion salt had an apparent anti-hypertensive effect. In hypertensive, the systolic blood pressure, diastolic and mean blood pressures in compound ion salt group were all lower than those in common salt group (148.77+12.13 vs 161.74+8.92, P<0.01; 77.25+10.24 vs 84.10+8.92, P<0.01; 101.58+6.21 vs 111.47+6.92, P<0.05) The same changes were also seen in normotensive (120.74+8.97 vs 127.84+10.25, P<0.01; 71.24+7.25 vs 76.56+6.32, P<0.01; 86.29+5.92 vs 95.34+4.78, P<0.05).2. Compared with common salt group, the 24 hours urine sodium was lower in hypertensive (150.39+45.97 vs 226. 08+55.58, P<0.01) , however, urine potassium and calcium were higher (34. 43+10.35 vs 27.68+9.31, P<0.05; 11.92+3.89 vs 7.95+2.71, P<0.05). The ratio of urine sodium to potassium declined (4.41+1.34 vs9.38+5.47, P<0.01) . In normotensive, the 24 hours urine sodium in compound ionsalt group is lower than that in common salt group (156. 83+47.65 vs 228.19+51.54, P<0.01) , but urine potassium and calcium are higher (34. 27+8.27 vs 22.15+8.96, P<0.05; 10.62+3.81 vs 7.42+3.19, P<0.05) and The ratio of urine sodium to potassium declined (4.59+1.57 vs 10.41+5.62,P<0.05) .3. The hypertensive in the compound ion salt group have lower level of Na+ and Ca2+ (18. 65+4.38 vs 23.87+5.21, P<0.05; 2.18+0.32 vs 1.67+0.58, P<0.05) , but there is no difference in intra-erythrocyte K+ between compound ion salt group and common salt group (P >0.05).4. In hypertensive, Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activity in compound ion salt group were higher than that in common salt group( 102.35+15.83 vs 90.45+18.91, P<0.05; 130.56+10.28 vs 95.21+10.28, P<0.05) . The same change was not observed in normotensive.5. In hypertensive, compared with common salt group, plasma renin activity and plasma angiotensin II level did not change (P >0.05). Above changes were also seen in normotensive.6. The serum atrial natriuretic peptide level of common salt group in hypertensive was higher than that in compound ion salt group (P<0.05). But there was no difference in normotensive between two groups (P >0.05).7. There were no changes in the level of serum cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, blood glucose, serum insulin (P >0.05).Conclusion:1 .The intake of sodium was reduced and the intake of potassium and calcium was increased without reducing the amount of salt.2. The compound ion salt had an anti-hypertensive effect.3. Compound ion salt increased the Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activitywhich resulted in reducing the amount of intra-erythrocyte Na+ and Ca2+.4. Compound ion salt reduced the level of the serum ANP.5. Compound ion salt did not increase insulin resistance and had no bad influence with blood lipid.
