It has been an important research area to establish a health care system that well meets the demands of the population for health care. The present study has focused on investigating and analyzing the demands of the inpatients for health care and has done a pilot study on hospital health care service strategy in respect of the demands of the inpatients.1071 inpatients took a survey through questionnaire in this study. The findings showed that: When their treatment ended, patients' knowledge about important health indicators was rather poor; and the awareness rate, cure rate and control rate of patients with hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia were all very low; patients with diabetes would be treated differently in a specialized department from a non-specialized department (P = 0.0001); inpatients knew very little about diagnostic standards, treatment principles, risk elements and harms of hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia; 77.40% of inpatients hoped to be taught about prevention and treatment of chronical diseases during their stay in hospital; meanwhile, 47.90% of patients were willing to pay for the health education the hospital offered. The results of the study suggest that there exists a rather big demand for health care hospitals can offer to the inpatient population. It should be pointed out that in order to restructure a hospital's service pattern and fulfill a hospital's health service strategy based on the health demands of the population, a hospital should change its concept as the precondition, t rain a 11 i ts s taff a s t he b ase a nd perfect i ts m echanism a s t he guarantee. A hospital should turn medical care into health care, specialized treatment into general practice, medical service into cultural service. It is suggested in this study that prevention and treatment of chronical diseases and technical training be systemized, hospital's health care services quality standards be integrated into the hospital's quality evaluation system and departments concerned perfect as soon as possible its medical economics management mechanism in respect of a hospital's health care services. This study will be a reference to hospitals for sustained improvement of service quality.
