The ancient Chinese medicine books pointed out that "Wise man treat people before diseases disease happen."Health care" has become an indispensable part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) aiming at advocating the concept of valuing life and paying attention on health care. Here the "care" actually means to manage, and to take activities to maintain health and prevent diseases from happening and developing. Nowadays there is no clear limit between health and illness. TCM health care’s target is to provide the health care according to different people’s constitution. This reminds us to have a good knowledge of the situation of people’s KAP on TCM health care and develop the right health care mode suitable for the community people.[Target]Get to know the current situation of people’s knowledge and attitude towards TCM health care service among the people willing to take TCM health care. Get to know the demand situation of TCM health care modes, providing information to take disease prevention and health intervention for community health service works.[Methods]A cross section study was conducted based on the source population of community people in Changning District, Shanghai. A face to face survey was applied to interview488patients in both Hongqiao and Xinjing community health center.339of the patients received the TCM health care while other149didn’t. Constitution identification is based on KY3H system developed by Huangyan Oriental (Beijing) health technology Co. Ltd. EpiData3.0was used to create the database. Double times parallel input was used in inputting data. We use SPSS17.0to analyze the data. Frequency, percentage were used to present the general information. Chi-square test and binary Logistic regression were applied to analyze the factors that influence people’s KAP and get to know the situation of people’s demand for TCM health care.[Results]1. The attitude and demand in TCM health care Among337valid responses,79.8%chose to trust TCM. A significant difference was found among different SES (social economic status) classes. The proportions were65.9%,66.2%,78.3%,79.4%and100%respectively in groups of <2000,2000~,4000~,6000~and>10000. The P value was<0.0001in both Pearson and tendency chi-square. It was obvious that with the increase in SES, the proportion of the people trust TCM increased. The reasons why people trust TCM included4main reasons:Culture related reasons, treatment effects, publicity related reasons and price. The investigation founded65.9%people with month income<2000chose culture related reasons while100.0%people with month income>10000chose culture related reasons. On the opposite,75.0%people with month income<2000chose publicity related reasons while only28.6%people with month income>10000chose publicity related reasons. The P value was<0.001in both Pearson and tendency chi-square. Those who trust TCM showed a higher proportion in the choice of culture related reasons and a lower proportion in the choice of publicity related reasons.In338effective responses,169people (50.0%) claim to know their own constitution. Those who trust TCM or attended the health education have a higher proportion (54.5%) than those who don’t trust TCM or attended the health education (33.8%). In169people who claim to know their own constitution,125people’s (74.0%) identifications match the constitution identification made by the system. Those who attended the health education have a higher proportion (76.98%) than those who didn’t (58.33%) in the match.2. TCM health service modeIn the multiple choices of TCM health services, medicinal food (Male:57.4%; Female62.1%), traditional Chinese medicine (Male:48.1%, Female61.7%) and lavipeditum (Male:40.1%, Female48.9%) ranked the top three. In males cupping (36.8%), massage (36.4%) and exercises (34.6%) ranked4-6. In females massage (39.7%), exercises (37.9%) and cupping (36.8%) ranked4-6. This may because the listed options were safe and easy to operate. In young people medicinal food (63.5%), traditional Chinese medicine (58.1%) and massage (55.4%) ranked top three. Cupping (54.1%)> lavipeditum (50.0%) and point application (36.5%) ranked4-6. In middle aged and old people, medicinal food (Middle:59.6%,01d:56.2%).traditional Chinese medicine (Middle:53.3%,01d:54.8%) and lavipeditum (Middle:45.9%, Old37.0%) ranked top three. Exercises (Middle: 42.6%,01d34.2%)、massage (Middle:33.3%, Old:32.9%) ranked4and5. We could see that medicinal food was still the most popular choice among community people in TCM health care.[Conclusion](1)TCM have a good acceptance in the community:Over70%of the TCM health care receivers trust TCM.(2)The reasons why community populations trust TCM vary. High income population tended to choose "Culture related reasons" while low income population tended to choose treatment effect and were more likely to be influenced by what other people tell them.(3)Those who trusted TCM or took part in the TCM health care education had higher proportions in both knowing the importance of TCM health care and accuracy of constitution than those who didn’t.(4)There was still a significant difference between what people believe his (her constitution is and the exact constitution measured by the system:Only46.2%of the population claimed to know their own constitution among which only2(3had a similar diagnoses with the system.(5)Among multiple choices of different TCM health care modes, medicinal food and traditional Chinese medicine were most popular.
