Percutaneous coronary intervention is among the principal treatments of coronary stenosis. The understanding of the disease deepened, the effect assessment of the treatment has broken through the conventional case fatality rate, survival rate, etc., and extended into some other areas, such as improvement of quality of life. Methods: The research employed the general-purpose Medical Outcome Study Short Form-8 (SF-8) and the special-purpose Seattle Angina Survey Form to assess the impact of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on the quality of life, and made preliminary analysis of the factors influencing quality of life of the patients of coronary disease. Questionnaires were used to investigate the subjects' quality of life before hospitalization, on leaving hospital, and 6 months after leaving hospital, of whom one group of 171 underwent successful PCI (PCI group) and the other group of 198 received only medication (medication group). Results: 1) Although no evident difference in quality of life had existed between PCI group and medication group before hospitalization (P> 0.05), the former group enjoyed better quality of life than the latter on and 6 months after leaving hospital (P <0.05); 2) PCI group's quality of life proved better 6 months after leaving hospital than that on leaving hospital, which is in turn better than that before hospitalization (P <0.05), and the same was true with the medication group (P<0.05), but PCI group's quality of life improved to a better extent than that of medication group;3) the respective life quality influencing factors for PCI group were, before operation, hypertension concurrence, the duration of coronary disease, as well as educational background, and, after operation, age, sedative administration, as well as educational background; the factors influencing the extended effect of the operation on quality of life included sex, hyperlipidemia concurrence, sedative administration, educational background, as well as types of coronary disease. Conclusions: 1) PCI can notably improve the life quality of the patients of coronary disease; 2) the factors influencing the effect of PCI operation are different at different stages of operation, which include chiefly age, educational background, sedative administration, the types of coronary disease, etc.
