Objective To detect the expressions of p21,p16 and p53 gene, and investigate their relationship in osteosarcomas. Methods SP immunohistochemical technique was used to detect the expressions and their relationship of p21,p16 and p53 gene among the 37 osteosarcomas. Result The positive rates of p21,p16 and p53 gene were 64.9%,40.5% and 45.9% respectively in 37 osteosarcomas, their positive rates and expressive intensities in osteosarcomas were higher ; their positive correlation was significantly observed between p21 and p16 gene (p<0.05), and was insignificantly observed between p53 and p21,p16 gene (p>0.05) in osteosarcomas . Conclusions The expressions of p21,p16 and p53 gene can reflect the high malignancy degree of osteosarcoma and they may play a important role in the development of osteosarcoma. Detecting p21,p16 and p53 gene by immunohistochemistry may be one of diagnostic and differential diagnostic indexes for osteosarcoma.
