[Background] We are lacking of , for a long time, a bridge connecting Prosthodontists and Patients on problems of option of possible ways for treatments and the corresponding results forecast in clinical practice, and as well as a computer-aided 3D system to promote the efficiency of education on Prosthodontics . Additionally, the computer -aided 3D technologies on Prosthodontics are emphasized on the researches of developing CAD-CAM system.[Purposes] The aims of the present study were to establish a 3d-preview system , based on the Windows environments, of clinical and educational practice in Prosthodontics.[Hard/Software and Methods] The hardware needed is a simple PC computer, whose CPU is better to reach 1. 3G or higher. The software includes Windows2000 Server, Photoshop6. 0, 3Dmax4. 0/5. 0, FaceGen Modeller , Premiere6. 0 , and SQL-Server. The software 3Dmax was used to establish 3D digital model of natural teeth and RPD components. Then in the Windows 2000 Server environment, a SQL dada base was constructed, containing the data of 3d model file established.Finally, with the help of the program written in ASP language, the 3d model of denture, added up with of the human faces, was compounded to provide the preview, in the ways of both fixed and motion pictures.[Results] 3D digital model of human natural teeth and the corresponding RPD components were successfully developed . With the data base governing the 3D digital model files set up, the program of application written in ASP languages was compiled and tested to run without errors, completing the initial foundation of 3d-preview system for clinical and educational practice in Prosthodontics.[Conclusion] The system was featured by characteristics of low-price, ease of manipulation , wide range for practical application and large space for continual self-development. So it has a high value of feasibility for clinical and educational practice in Prosthodontics in China.
