Sea cucumber is a kind of important food and medicine resources, which has been proved containing lots of bioactive substances.Sea cucumber saponins, triterpene glycosides and collagen proteins have drawn attentions a lot because of their wide spectrum of biological effects, such as anti-tumor,antifungal,cytotoxic, hemolytic, and immunomodulatory activities. There are differences in the bioactivity between different species of sea cucumber, based on the differences in living environment and food-intake.In this study, the effects of Isostichopus badionotus, Isostichopus fuscus and Cucumaria frondosa on the lipid metabolism were detemined. Further more, comparative investigation on the mechanism of lipid metabolism regulation was conduced. At the same time, investigation on the effects of three species of sea cucumber on the anti-oxidation possibility in hypercholesteremic rats was conducted. The normal rats were administered orally with different sea cucumber, and indexes followed were examined. The contents of TC and TG were detemined by using enzyme assay kits. The results showed that three species of seacucumber could decrease the content of TG in liver(P<0.01);Ⅰ.badionotus and C.frondosa could also reduce the content of TC in serum(P<0.05).The hypercholesteremic rats were established by administered orally with high fat diet, and indexes followed were examined. The contents of TC,TG,LDL-C,HDL-C of serum, the contents of TC,TG of liver, and the contents of TC,bile acid of fecal were detemined;the activities of FAS,CPT-1,peroxisomalβ-oxidation enzymes and PAP of liver were measured by using chemical method;the content of total lipid of fecal was detemined by using weight method. The results showed that three species of sea cucumber could decrease, the contents of TC(P<0.01),LDL-C(P<0.05)and the LDL-C/HDL-C(P<0.05)of serum significantly;reduce the contents of TC and TC of liver effectively;reduce the contents of total lipids and bile acid of fecal significantly(P<0.01);increase the activities of CPT-1 and peroxisomalβ-oxidation enzymes of liver obviously(P<0.05). In addition,I.Badionotus and C.frondosa could decrease the content of TC of fecal (P<0.01);I.fuscus could increase the activity of PAP of liver(P<0.05);C.frondosa could increase the activity of FAS of liver(P<0.05).It can be concluded that three species of sea cucumber regulate the lipid metabolism in rats effectively, reduce the accumulation of lipid in body, mainly through the way of promoting the catabolism of fatty acid and inhibiting the absorption of lipid.Meanwhile,I.fuscus could promote the transformation of fatty acid and C.frondosa could inhibit the synthesis of fatty acid which also attribute a lot to the regulation on the lipid metabolism.Comparative investigation on the effect of three species of sea cucumber on the anti-oxidation possibility in hypercholesteremic rats was conducted through examining the indexes followed. The content of MDA,the activities of GSH-PX and SOD in serum and liver were determined. The results showed that three species of sea cucumber could reduce the content of MDA both of serum and liver, increase the activity of GSH-PX of serum(P<0.01)and the activities of GSH-PX and SOD of liver(P<0.05).It can be concluded that I.badionotus,I.fuscus and C.frondosa could promote the activities of endogenous anti-oxidation enzymes and reduce the level of peroxidation in body, which attribute to the effect of preventing AS.
