Walnut is the world's most important nut tree species, the distribution in our country it is also the most widely. China is one of the original places of walnut with abundant genetic resources. Main areas in our country is rich in nuts type. However, this rich type of nut is a limiting factor for commercial production of walnut. In this study, the nut shell and nutrient content of 107 walnut populations and 5 walnut variety distributed in different ecological areas. The experiment probed the changes and correlations on the nut shell and nutrient content. Aiming at offering scientific basis for choose the moderate nut shape and thickness of husk, improved cultivars selection and culturing of walnut. The main results are the below:1 Regarding the nut shell, the coefficient of variation in the east of China was smaller than that in the west. It suggested that the genetic diversity in the west of China is higher than the colony in the east.(1) The walnut colony distributed in the southwest of China had a higher suture line tightness and mechanical strength than the colony in other places. The walnut colony distributed in the west of China had a higher indexes of shape than the colony in the east.(2) Correlation between suture line tightness and suture line highness(r=0.733**)is statistically significant at the 0.01 level.Correlation between suture line tightness and mechanical strength(r=0.506*), inner pleat wall thickness(r=0.482*)is statistically significant at the 0.05 level.This proved that suture line tightness is tighter, suture line is higher and inner pleat wall is thicker.(3) There is not statistically significant from the same variety in the different ecological areas of suture line tightness.2 Regarding the nutritional quality, the coefficient of variation in the east of China was smaller than that in the west. It suggested that the genetic diversity in the west of China is higher than the colony in the east.(1) Fat content in J. sigillata populations was apparently higher than that in J. regia populations. The coefficient of variation in J. sigillata was smaller than that in J. regia. The walnut colony distributed in the east of China had a higher sugar content than the colony in the west. Walnutω-6/ω-3 ratio in line with the optimal ratio of 4:1-10:1. Walnut fatty acid ratio distributed in Xizang provinces for the best, to 4.34.(2) There is not statistically significant from walnut colony of protein.The walnut colony distributed in the west of China had a higher sugar content than the colony in the east. The walnut colony distributed in the south of China had a higher sugar content than the colony in the north. Tannic acid content in J. regia populations was apparently higher than that in J. sigillata populations. The coefficient of variation in J. sigillata was smaller than that in J. regia. The walnut colony distributed in the west of China had a higher tannic acid content than the colony in the east.(3) There is statistically significant from the same variety in the different ecological areas of fat,saturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid,linolenic acid andα-linolenic acid,ω-6/ω-3,protein,sugar,tannic acid.
