Objective To investigate the effects of self-efficacy intervention on the psychological state of patients with orthodontics and establish reasonable intervention model to.enhance clinical effects. Methods Divided the 136 cases of malocclusion patients randomly into the intervention group and the control group. The two group were both given general orthodontics treatment. The control group was explained the general knowledge of orthodontics.Beside the the general knowledge of orthodontics, the intervention group was given self-efficacy intervention. The two groups were assessed with the self-rating anxiety scale,self-rating depression scale, general self-efficacy scale and Wong-Baker faces pain scale during the whole treatment. Results The score of the self-rating anxiety scale,self-rating depression scale, general self-efficacy scale and Wong-Baker faces pain scale had no statistical difference between the the intervention group and the control group before the intervention(P>0.05).There was statistical difference on the score of Wong-Baker faces pain scale between the two groups after 1 week intervening and 2 month intervening(both P<0.05).1 month after intervention, the score of the self-rating anxiety scale,self-rating depression scale, general self-efficacy scale and Wong-Baker faces pain scale in intervention group and the control group respectively were(48.75±8.93) vs(53.53±10.33)),( 47.65±8.94) vs(51.24±8.03),( 2.82±0.34) vs(2.66±0.47)),and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).1year after intervention, the score of the self-rating anxiety scale,self-rating depression scale, general self-efficacy scale and Wong-Baker faces pain scale in intervention group and the control group respectively were(45.56±8.93) vs(49.16±11.04)),( 44.63±8.93) vs(48.32 ± 9.03),( 2.91±0.61) vs(2.69±0.66),and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The correlation analysis showed, the total score of self-efficacy was positively correlated with patient compliance of orthodontics and satisfaction of orthodontics. Conclusion It can significantly reduce the morbidity of the mental health problem, improve the curative effect of orthodontic and enhance the patient compliance through self-efficacy intervention for patients with orthodontics.
