Purpose To evaluate the clinic effect of Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acupoints to treat the Shoulder-Hand Syndrome (SHS) after stroke under the guidance of the professor with rich clinic experience and apply a better and more effective method for the disease. The early recovery of the patient can reduce the burden of family and society.Method Two groups of patients both apply acupuncture and treatment for basic disease. This study adopts small sample confrontation test to divide the patients into treatment group (EG) and control group (CG). The EG is given electro acupuncture mainly to Shoulder-4-Acupoints and the CG is mainly given Hand-Yangming Meridian acupuncture to cure the SHS after stroke. This study compares the clinic effect of curing the SHS after stroke between 30 cases in the EG (Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acu points) and 30 cases in the CG (Hand-Yangming Meridian acupuncture). Scores of upper limb movement function, pain and daily activities of the two groups before and after treatment are evaluated by Fugl-Meyer Motor Function Assessment, visual analogue scales (VAS) and activities of daily living (ADL) for analysis of the treatment effectiveness.Result According to the comparison of age, gender, disease frequency and the course of disease, analysis of the 60 cases indicates that the difference (P>0.05) between the two groups is not significant. Before treatment, the score difference is not significant (P>0.05) in the Fugl-Meyer Motor Function Assessment, VAS and ADL of the upper limb in the two groups, which means the basic line of the two groups is coincident, and with comparability. After treatment, scores of the Fugl-Meyer and ADL increase and that of VAS decreases. The score difference of the two groups compared after treatment is significant (P<0.05). The outcome shows the treatment improves the clinical symptoms of SHS in both groups. After treatment, score of VAS of the EG group has decreased more than the CG group (P<0.01), which proves Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acu points can effectively release pain. Moreover, score of ADL shows significant difference of the EG group before and after treatment (P<0.01), which also proves Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acu points can greatly improve the patients'quality of life. After Fugl-Meyer of the two groups is evaluated by Nimodipine method, it is found that the effective rate of the EG group is 93%, significantly higher than 76% of the CG group, which proves Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acupoints can effectively improve the upper limb movement function of SHS after stroke. Conclusion Both the Hand-Yangming Meridian acupuncture treatment and Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acupoints treatment are effective to treat SHS after stroke, but the latter treatment has an obvious better effect than the former treatment. That means Electro Acupuncturing the Shoulder-4-Acupoints treatment for the SHS disease after stroke has spacious application value and investigation perspective.
