| BackgroundRheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease, typically with symptoms of synovitis, bone damage and joint injuries. Arthritis of proximal interphalangeal joints, metacarpophalangeal joints, wrists, knees, ankles and toes are often involved with this disease, frequently accompanied by anemia, fever, enlargement of lymph nodes, subcutaneous nodules and other extra-articular symptoms. Various auto-antibodies and positive high potency can be detected in the serologic test. The disease has a long duration and a higher possibility of disability, and if not treated properly it will lead to deformity of joints. The incidence of morbidity of RA increases with age. The risk of the disease is generally about 0.34%. The male-to-female ratio is 1 to 3. A significant percentage of Rheumatoid arthritis occurs in people from 60 years old to 75 years old (22-60 people in 100,000 will have the disease). The morbidity of our nation is below the average level of the world.Constitution in Traditional Chinese Medicine means a generally relatively stable inherent property in many aspects like organic system, physiological function and mental activities during the life of an individual on the foundation of innate endowment and acquisition from the environment. After 1970s, with deep researches in every aspect, researchers began to pay their attention on social research and the theory on classification of constitution instead of the organization of related knowledge from ancient literature materials. In nearly 30 years, national researchers did relatively systematic and comprehensive conclusions, which has a positive meaning for the development of diagnosis and treatment of the disease.1. ObjectiveThis research is about classification of different constitutions in 200 cases with rheumatoid arthritis (from May,2013 to Feb,2015) who were admitted to Department of Rheumatology, Dongfang Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.2. MethodsWe selected cases according to the new standard of EULAR (European League Against Rheumatism) and ACR (American College Of Rheumatology) in 2009. We completed the Classification of Constitution in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Identification Table. We used SPSS 12.0 to do statistical analysis.3. Results3.1 Yang-deficiency, yin-deficiency, and Qi-deficiency are the mainly types in the 200 cases. Their proportions are 27%,32% and 13% respectively.3.2 There was significant relationship between genders and constitutions. (P<0.05) Yang-deficiency was seen mostly in both genders.3.3 Constitutions could not be different according to different age.3.4 There was significant relationship between disease duration and constitutions. (P<0.05)4. Conclusion4.1 Yin-deficiency, yang-deficiency and Qi-deficiency are commonly seen in the distribution of constitutions.4.2 There was significant relationship between genders and constitutions.4.3 Constitutions could not be different according to different age.4.4 There was significant relationship between disease duration and constitutions.4.5 There may be some correlation between TCM syndrome differentiation and constitution typing. |
