Most hydro-structures have massive concrete. Releasing steam heat from the mass concrete structures while solidifying leads to produce the temperature change and the volume change. They cause the corresponding nonlinear temperature field and stresses which are the main factors to form crack in the mass concrete structures. It is obvious for crack to destroy the completeness, anti-water behavior and durability of the structures and to become a hidden peril. Thus, temperature stress and crack control must be considered while massive concrete hydro-structure is in design and construction. The temperature crack of hydro-structure massive concrete is very complicated involving with many factors such as structural style, building material, additive, match, construction technic, foundation and environment. There is often a deviation between theory and practice. Combining with monitoring the temperature stress of baseplate of lock head of Linhuaigang project and practical measures of crack control, this paper analyses rules of changing inner temperature field and temperature stress of massive concrete and studies the effect of practical crack control measures. By means of comparing the testing data of temperature and stress with calculating result of the baseplate of lock head, it proves the rationality and effectiveness of crack control measures adopted by this paper.
