With the rapid growth of highway in China in recent years,the number of highway acidents has raised gradually, which result in numerous casualty and property losses. Among the highway accidents about one third are vehicle-barriar crashes. Therefore,analying crash between vehicle and barriar, studying occupant protection arid improving safety performance of vehicle and barriar has aroused a greater concern in nations all over the world. At the same time, HPC-High Performance Computer has made a great breakthrough in recent years, which play a great part in computer simulation area. Computer simulation is widely used in research and development of barriar all over the world, which shorten the period of research and reduce the cost consumedly.Car crash with highway barriar was studied systematically by using computer simulation and experiment method in this paper based on an new barriar design project. Car and road side barriar finite element model were generated by using general software LS-DYNA and HyperWorks.A parameter study on dynamics of car and the performance of the barriar in terms of quality,initial impact speed and impact angle of the car, and material,quality,connection and friction contact of the barriar,which provided lots of useful reference data for the crash test in the proving ground.High performance computer was required for the simulation of the crash process has a requirment of. It is impossible for a single common server to run the software while the model has too many elements. A great effort was made on this issue. Finally, calculation server cluster was created based on Linux operation system. The model calculation problem was solved.Car-barriar crash test is quite time-consuming and expensive, computer simulation could make a good preparation for the test.The precision of computer simulation result depends on the precision of the finite element model which comes from abundant modeling experience. I wish my paper could be helpful to others in the future.
