Ultrasonics is one of the most important techniques for nondestructive testing (NDT) and application wide. Recently, types of digital ultrasonic devices have been presented in home market, but they are expensive and lack of openness. And it is unfeasbile to maintain or expand for laboratory or testing. Therefore, it is very necessary to develop a set of digital ultrasonic flaw detection system with high-speed data acquisition and analysis capability.By using FPGA with powerful function such as data processing, logical operations and control, application of FPGA in ultrasonic inspection system is discussed and a set of FPGA-based ultrasonic inspection system is designed and developed in this paper. The main work is as follows:1. Finished the hardware circuit in ultrasonic detection system, mainly including the ultrasound transmitter, amplifier circuit, filter circuit, A/D converter circuit, and core control part, and PCB board designed. After debugged and tested, the hardware circuit fully meets requirement of data acquisition in the ultrasonic inspection.2. Designed and implemented the timing control in the ultrasonic emission, data acquisition, data acquisition width and logic functions in the channel selection, parameter read and write of FPGA. And simulation experiments on FPGA are carried out.3. Programmed the host computer and a test platform for ultrasonic inspection system is constructed, and experiments on two type of specimen are tested. Experiments show that the ultrasonic detection system can obtain satisfactory results.
