In our country’s transport system, rail transport has been played an important role in thesystem, but the rail will inevitably lead to a variety of injuries in the long-running process,and this will influence the safety of train. Ultrasonic flaw detection is one of the mostcommonly methods in rail detection testing. With the development of ultrasonic testingdiagnostic techniques and detection methods, ultrasonic flaw detection technology has beenimportantly used in the railway field.This paper analyzed ultrasonic eigenvalues, acoustic parameter of medium and ultrasonicproperties of the medium. Basised on all of these, then according to the basic principle of theultrasonic pulse reflection, it designed ultrasonic rail failure detection and location system. Itused high performance processor as its control core unit, and used high-speed acquisition cardas the acquisition of data. All of these constitute five-channel ultrasonic non-destructivetesting hardware platform.The system selected the appropriate probes, designed the control module which usedmicrocontroller as its core and the circuit of ultrasonic transmitter and receiver; Usinghigh-speed acquisition card achieved a five-channel high speed signal acquisition. The paperidentified in VC++6.0for the programming tools, Matlab for analysis tools in order to achievethe positioning of rail defects, and it completed the Ultrasonic flaw detection system ofsoftware programming and software testing. Finally it used wavelet transform effectivelyremove the noise of collected echo signal, it achieve the enhancement of wound-wave signaland extraction, and it realized the determination and positioning of rail defects.A lot of experiments showed that: in this paper, the design of the ultrasonic flaw detectionsystem can locate and test the rail defects. In the end of the paper,it made a concluding andsuggested for further work.
