The Study Of Keyuan Gardening Art

Keyuan Garden, enjoy a lone history and boast a flawless landscape design, has a deep historical relationship with Gentle Waves Pavilion which is listed as one of the World Heritages. There is little historical record or recent document about this garden. Once being a private school and also a typical Suzhou classical garden, Keyuan Garden not only is a typical culture carrier, but also a demonstrator of classical garden aesthetic, as well as a representative of ancient private school.In this paper we'd analyze the building philosophy and techniques adopted in Keyuan Garden and further discuss about the rebuilding and protecting method, by means of searching both the Garden entity and historical records. At the beginning,we will see the common knowledge of Suzhou classic gardens and some basic situations in its research and protection process. Then with all the existing records and evidence collected in field study, we will glance into its history and look into the"Eight Scenic Spots", figuring out their real picture in the past. And in the final part, we will discuss about the building philosophy of Keyuan Garden, the recent situation of it, its location, the unique traits of its space division, the vegetation, water, rock art and some other gardening factors. Also what will be mentioned in this part are the spiritual quality and style of scholar garden, the surroundings and its vicious influences towards Keyuan Garden, and some suggestions about its reconstruction. I hope this paper could, by this way, provide some reference value to protection and rebuilding of the other classic gardens.
