Nuclear power has been accepted by china for its clean, economical, and sustainable properties. The progress of nuclear power in china has been delayed for the lack of the design and manufacturing technology. In this paper, the hydraulic model of the AP1000 recator coolant pump was designed and studied. In this paper, a series of investigations were carried out with regard to the impeller, the diffuser, and the volute. For the impeller, the traditional design method of the centrifugal pump and the mixed-flow pump was adopted, and the impeller of the AP1000 reactor coolant pump was designed. The numerical simulation and the strength analysis were carried on the impeller, which was a beneficial attempt. For the volute, four different volutes with different outlet angles were designed. The investigation showed that:an optimal flow field in the volute was obtained with the watered flowing into the volute from the central part and flowing out of the volute along the tangent direction. For the diffuser, the interaction between volute and diffuser with different outlet angles was investigated. The investigation showed that:the pump head and efficiency increases with decreasing the outlet angle of the diffuser. However, it is important to be noticed that the growth rate become increasingly small with a little decrease of the pump head when increasing the outlet angle to 20°, which means 20°should be an optimal angle for the diffuser. The research above laid a good foundation for the design and manufacture of the RCP.
