Sleep diseases always threaten human health. In order to win the best treatment time and reinforce prevention to improve the cure rate, it is necessary for early discovery. However, sleep diseases happen randomly, so it is hard to forecast. Long-time sleep inspection is necessary for sleep diseases discovery. In addition, sleep is a kind of physiological process which is easy to be disturbed. For sleep monitoring, home environment is the best place. It can avoid the strange sleep environment such as laboratory and uncomfortable electrode interference. In a word, non-perceivable and long-time sleep monitor is the tendency nowadays.The main methods for sleep study can be classified into two kinds, namely, EEG analysis and non-EEG analysis method. Non-EEG analysis, especially for wrist activity analysis, is the main direction of sleep information extraction. The paper studies on the sleep arithmetic and the relation of activity and sleep to develop a low-power and non- perceivable sleep monitor based on wrist activity.The designed instrument adopts the framework of distributed control system that comprises the extension set and PC. The extension set is in charge for wrist-activity collection, storage and communication with PC by infrared interface. The extension set comprises several correspondingly circuit modules such as wrist activity collection, single chip system, data communication and storage modules. In the paper, micro- and low-power CMOS chips are selected to design the extension set which is based on the requirement of portable and long-time monitor.The system is consisted with two independent parts, wrist-activity recording instrument and sleep analysis software. Wrist-activity recording instrument is used to record and restore the wrist activity signal. And it can send data to the computer by infrared interface when users need to analyze the data set. Wrist-activity recording instrument comprises several correspondingly circuit modules such as wrist activity collection, single chip system, data communication and storage modules. In the paper, micro- and low-power CMOS chips are selected to design the extension set which is based on the requirement of portable and long-time monitor.Sleep analysis software is in charge for the sleep estimation with wrist activity. The paper complies with Software Engineering, adopts Unified Modeling Language and Oriented Object Programming and uses Visual C++.NET to complete the design of sleep analysis software. The functions such as serial port communication, wrist-activity display, report form print and dragging selection with a mouse are realized by multi-thread, painting, print and other technologies.By the primary test, the platform sample is proved to be normally running. It's expected that it can improve the sleep arithmetic to increase the accuracy for sleep estimation by the comparison experiment with PSG. Consequently, it will afford an easy method and general platform for sleep research and the treatment effect of insomnia.
