The Brief Analysis For Housing Balcony Design

Due to the contemporary new characteristics of urban housing, balconies have become crucially important in fulfilling customers'material and psychological requirements. With the development of housing detail-oriented transition in the New Era, details are attracting more and more attentionsFirstly, this dissertation starts by enumerating concepts and historical evolution of balcony from Modern China to the West; analyses in both behavioral and psychological need to clarify the meaning of balcony-openness and extensiveness; analyses the initial basic functions: circulation, sight-seeing, communication and resting. Secondly, the author studies the theoretical basis of balcony design, on the basis of which expatiates of the fundamental elements of design and its influential aspects; then concludes the overall tendency of balconies: functional abruption and functional blurriness.Based on the studies above, the dissertation discusses the basic points related to designing balconies. Illustrated by several case studies, the author goes on to discuss plan design, fa?ade design, energy-saving design and the application of new material and new technology, in the end he puts forward his opinions and proposes solutions to certain problems frequently met in designing practices. This dissertation and research attempt to provide theoretical supports for architects'practice and suggestions for dwellers'living as well, so as to in the end, improve the overall quality of dwelling.
