Residential Balcony Space Research And Design

With the improvement of living standards, people pay more attention to mental and psychological requirements on the base that their material needs have already met. However, due to the situation that large population, land resource constraints in the modern city, so the residential buildings intensive, mostly for the high-rise collective residential. As the residential which have poor grounding resistance, also interior space is relatively closed, that makes the balcony has important significance for improving the living quality and increasing the degree of comfort of living environment. Balcony as an important part of residential apartment layout, its design quality has become an important standard to measure the residential "livable", thus, much attention should be paid to the "balcony" this detail’s design. However, in actual practice, as there exist deviation in understanding the essence connotation of balcony’s function and also influenced by other factors, there still exist some problems in the balcony’s design.This dissertation makes all times and all countries as a clue, firstly, enumerates concept sand historical evolution of balcony from Modem China to the West, analyses the concept of balcony, clarifies the essence characteristic and connotation of balcony—openness and extensiveness; secondly, expounds related theory of residential balcony design such as the general elements of the balcony, balcony’s classification、balcony’s regional attribute and so on,analyses the connotation of the balcony’s function that is meet people’s physiological and mental requirments. Also,summarized the characteristics of the balcony in nowaday China in detail; then, based on the studies above, in order to guide practice, the dissertation discusses the basic points related to design balconies such as balcony’s plane form design and space form design, combines balcony’s plane design and elevation design with aparement layout design. Also, the dissertation discusses balcony’s energy-saving and safety design; lastly, the dissertation makes the monographic study for balcony’s area calculation, depth dimension and generative design of balcony. During the study of balcony’s depth dimension,BIM technology is used, which is in order to guarantee the accuracy of calculaton and research.The dissertation mainly uses comparative analysis method and summary method during the whole research process, also combines with some examples to solve problems. The author hope that through this study, can provide some theoretical supports for architects’practice and do a little power to improve the quality of residential.
