Analysis Of Ancient WU Architectural Decorative Patterns

Ancient architectural remains in WU (South Yang-Tze river delta) area are important material and cultural heritages of ancient WU cultures. The decorations and patterns in these Wu ancient buildings are truly are very important presentations of the beauty of these traditional cultures and arts. And by studying them, it will help to understand the spirits of these traditional arts.Wuxi district is one of the main sources of the Wu culture. So we will focus on the traditional architectures in this area as examples, to analyze the decorative art of these ancient Wu architectural remains.This article has 5 chapters in total. And we will discuss the political/economical background of the first appearing of the architectural decorative arts of Wu architectures, via analysis and understanding of the history, culture, and traditions of this area. We will analyze and conclude the deeply contained traditions that are covered under the surface of architectural decorative patterns by illustrating the usages of these decorations. We will classify these patterns that represent luck and prosperity to discuss the unique artistry of these Wu architectures. By applying the traditional Chinese cultural and artistic concepts, and studying the decorative arts of Wu architectures, we explained what is the meaning of "Baibi" (the ultimate form of beauty that Chinese are searching for), and fully showcased the unique beauty of these decorative patterns.To research and study the traditions is for the purpose of use them in present days. The art itself is always inherited from the past and keeps on evolving. The long history of traditional Wu cultures and arts, are not only the springs of inspirations for modern architects when doing architectural design and architectural decoration designs, but also important elements that could be applied by any form of art of decorations. This article wants to study the traditional artistic elements and absorb the cultural distillation deeply within, and to inspire and develop the thoughts of modern artistic designs.
