As the politics and culture centre of Fujian Province in most dynasty, Fuzhou is a famous city with long history, which was announced as "National Historical and Cultural Famous City" by State Council in 1986. Under the particular natural environment, social and historical background, and the impact of the economic basis, "San Fang Qi Xiang", which was located in core area of Fuzhou city, become a residential house block with distinct regional characteristic built in Ming and Qing Dynasty.The paper makes a holism study on "San Fang Qi Xiang" traditional residential houses block and buildings, including two layers of structure: 1. study on entity elements of "San Fang Qi Xiang" residential houses block and buildings; 2. study on background and history evolution process of "San Fang Qi Xiang". Two layers of structure correlates closely, which were studied as a complete system.The paper is divided into four sections: the first part includes the first and second chapters, which elaborates and analysis the evolution background of "San Fang Qi Xiang" traditional residential houses in Fuzhou, and discusses the multiple impacts on it, including history, nature, geography and climate, culture, economy, religion and humanity convention, etc. The second part(Chapter 3) take overall framework of "San Fang Qi Xiang" residential houses block organization as object of study, and analysis integrant parts of the block, explore history evolution process of the alleys. The third part consists of Chapter 4 to 6, analysis construction entity from the spatial arrangement, the structure system and the construction technology three principal aspects, sums up regional characteristic, discusses causes and historical origins. The fourth part, Chapter 7 Conclusion, sums up the Regional Characteristic and Historical Origins of the "San Fang Qi Xiang" Residential Houses Built in Ming and Qing Dynasty in Fuzhou.
