| The city, as the outcome of human civilization which has developed at the certain stage, is the primary inhabit region for people and the society nowadays, and also the hinge of the economic, culture and transportation in the society. Urban landscape bears the weight of the social economical activities of the city, and the function of the urban landscape has close relationship with the urban development. Therefore, whether the urban landscape system is reasonable affects the urban inhabited environment and has significant meaning for the urban sustainable development.The city of Wuhan, which is located at the middle and backward position of the Yangtze River, is the regional leader with powerful economical foundation and great size in the central section of China, and it has the predominance to run through conveniently to every part of China. With the fast urbanization in Wuhan, its area expands continually and the ground exploitation is increasing everyday. The urbanization and dense social economical activities in the city cause intense changes in the urban landscape system and a series of urban problems.On the one hand, the evolution of urban landscape system is the representation of the urban development; on the other hand, the unreasonable landscape system will restrict its development. Consequently, strengthening the study with the theories and technique of Landscape Ecology and Urban Geography on the evolution of urban landscape system in Wuhan, then analyzing the primary problems and bringing up suggestions for harmonizing the function of urban landscape, which will be helpful for the harmony and conformity of urban landscape, and improve the urban competitive ability and inhabited environment, at last achieving the urban sustainable development gradually.The study of the evolution of urban landscape system and function integration is mainly about:(1) Analyze the evolution process and its characters from the angle of time. Firstly, discuss the evolution process of urban landscape in different period; then conclude its evolution character with the driving factors, the spatial expanding process and the evolution process of its regional structure. (2) Analyze the evolution characters of urban landscape system from the angle of space. With the theories of spatial structure and land-use in Urban Geography, and some theories in Landscape Ecology, and the techniques such as the software of ARCGIS,SPSS and Excel, there are three parts to discuss the characters of landscape system from the landscape factors, structure and function during the fast developing period(the year from 1995 to 2005).Firstly, analyzing the evolution character of dominant factors gets the result that the landscapes with lots of change are industry landscape, inhabited landscape, road and square landscape, greenbelt landscape, infield landscape and the lake landscape. Secondly, analyzing the urban landscape structure evolution from the landscape composing, pattern and using degree gets the result that the urban landscape is affected much more serious by human activities and we cannot neglect the protecting and building of urban zoology landscape and agriculture landscape. Otherwise, the function evolution is mainly about function differentiation process and mutual distributing pattern. The builded landscape is improved the function, then the function of every landscape style, land use and the regional combination is adjusting to be helpful and effective for achieving urban modernization and systematization.(3) Summarizing the mainly problems in the urban landscape system, and giving some suggestions for its harmony and integration according to the landscape and urban sustainable modes. The integration suggestions include: controlling the suburbanization and guarding the builded landscape is spreading out of order; improving the function of zoology landscape and creating proper inhabited environment; protecting agriculture landscape and maintaining the nature balance; proposing the environment-protected traffic and building the expedite landscape pattern.
