Traffic accidents due to tires explosion increases together with length of highway growth and automobile speed increase, traffic accidents draw more and more attention. According to a recent survey, about 70% and more traffic accidents in the highway are caused by tires explosion. Tire pressure monitoring can monitor the condition of tires in time to avoid the happen of accidents. Therefore, tires pressure monitoring system is becoming the new focus of the developing Automobile-electron.The thesis first introduces the history, actuality and the future of TPMS, analysis the structure and work principle of existing WSB and PSB TPMS, and puts forward a method of TPMS based on longitudinal stiffness. Since tire pressure is proportioned with longitudinal stiffness. A tire mathematic modal was established based on longitudinal stiffness. An dynamical model with two parameters was developed in this paper for estimation of the longitudinal stiffness and rolling radius of the driven tires. The method estimating the tow parameters is established by using a mixed technique of pattern search and lest-square regression, which can avoid regression divergence when initial parameters are not optimally selected. The simulation program was made on Matlab platform with algorithm, and the validity of this algorithm was demonstrated by the perfect coincidence of the simulation and true results. Finally, the algorithm applied to real test vehicle data shows that measured tire pressure and estimated longitudinal stiffness are approximately inversely proportional. It also suggests that longitudinal stiffness estimate may be used to predict tire inflation pressure.This method can be realized in lower cost, because it needs only rotational speed of each wheel, which is obtained from speed sensor provided for anti-lock brake system. The method, has the ability to detect in every under inflation situation such as a puncture and natural leaks.
