Traffic accidents due to tires explosion increases together with length of highway growth and automobile speed increase, traffic accidents draw more and more attention. According to a recent survey, about 70% and more traffic accidents in the highway are caused by tires explosion. Tire pressure monitoring can monitor the condition of tires in time to avoid the happen of accidents. Therefore, tires pressure monitoring system is becoming the new focus of the developing Automobile-electron.The paper first analyzes former methods of tire pressure monitoring system, then deal with a new method of tire pressure monitoring system based on torsional stiffness. Since tire pressure is proportioned with torsional stiffness. A tire mathematic modal was established based on torsional stiffness. The least square observer is designed to estimate the parameter variations and the simple least squares method can extract the parameter variations from the estimated disturbances which include parameter disturbances and noise in observer. At last, experimental results are shown to confirm the effectiveness of the method.This system can be realized in lower cost, because it needs only rotational speed of each wheel, which is obtained from speed sensor provided for anti-lock brake system , and has the ability to detect in every under inflation situation such as a puncture and natural leaks.
