Urban traffic congestion is the major issue drawing universal concern worldwide nowadays. Intelligent traffic system is a necessary means to resolve traffic congestion, and traffic signal control system is the core to intelligent traffic system. Comparing to kinds of data acquisition techniques apply in the existing traffic signal control system, wireless sensor network is a totally new technique for data acquisition and disposal, with the advantage of not limited by environment, self-organization and distribution. This paper taking it as the starting point, by researching the intelligent traffic signal control system under the environment of wireless sensor network, make an emphasizing investigation in the signal control method, traffic signal priority control method and urban trunk line optimal control method.Aiming at the current situation of urban traffic control, this paper firstly make an analysis and discussion about the basic theory of traffic flow, the basic concept of traffic signal control, performance index, classification method, and the application of some typical traffic signal control methods. And it makes an exploration on the networks mode of wireless sensor network in the field of intelligent traffic, magnetic sensitive vehicle detecting theory, and vehicle position algorithm.Secondly, it makes a research on single intersection signal control in the environment of wireless sensor network. On one hand, it put forward a fuzzy control method for single intersection signal control under the environment of wireless sensor network. This signal timing method can dynamically obtain the real-time data from wireless sensor network, imitate the decision-making process of traffic police commanding, and design a single intersection fuzzy controller applying in the multi-phase signal control. On the other hand, it makes a research on traffic signal priority in the environment of dynamic network organizing mode, set up a traffic priority signal modal in the intersection of bus lane, and analyzes the timing strategy for traffic signal priority. With genetic algorithm, it makes timing parameter optimization according to the delay formula, and makes a property comparison in delay between the public traffic vehicles before and after optimization. In this sense, it proves that adoption of public traffic priority strategy can reduce the bus delay in a great extent.Finally, this paper makes an investigation on coordinating control method. By analyzing the characteristic of multi-intersection (traffic trunk lane) coordinating control, aiming at the disadvantage of signal timing modal in the existing traffic trunk lane, it set up a main road phase-difference optimal model based on the wireless sensor network, and makes proper contrast in the field of delay and timing control between the vehicles before and after the optimization. The results show that the method mentioned in this paper is more close to make the vehicle effectively reduce the delay of vehicle in the main traffic trunk lane.This paper put forward the solving method for urban multi-intersection signal control in the environment of wireless sensor network, and makes a simulation. The simulation result shows: the method mentioned in this paper, comparing to the traditional timing signal control method, can obtain the real-time traffic flow data and reduce the average delay for vehicle in some extent. Therefore, it can be regards as a series of effective traffic signal control methods.
