Study On Plan Design Of Youth Apartment In Shanghai

Nowadays, with the undesirable condition of youth housing in Shanghai and the policy supporting medium and small-sized apartment, the youth house market is blooming, while more and more problems are emerging. In this essay, the history of the development of youth housing in Shanghai from 1949 to 2006 is reviewed in the first part. The writer analyzed the main types of apartments in which youth lived in different periods, including the old Linong house, the apartments in newly state, the tube-shaped apartments, the apartments for young couples, the affordable houses, and so on. Compared with those old types, the current medium and small apartments are considered to be the result of spiral development of youth housing, they are still small and functional mixture though. Next , with the site investigation in Rui hong New Town and Shanghai Youth Town, the questionnaire, and the research of the other youth community projects, the writer summarized the status quo of the youth housing in Shanghai and its features, later list its problems, trend, and the experience from home and abroad. In the last part, according to its way of organizing different function, the current youth apartments are sorted into 4 types, and made comments about their features, target groups, advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the writer point out the keystone of youth apartment design, on one hand, is to make it affordable, i.e. to limit the size without reducing the comfort. On the other hand, youth apartment does not equal to small-sized apartment, the special life style, behavior model and demands should be paid more attention. Thus, the writer gave some suggestions of the design methods which lead to fuzzy function, comfort and sustainability.
