In recent years, navigation equipments such as radar, automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA), very high frequency phone (VHF), and automatic identification system (AIS) for ship collision avoidance are playing an increasingly prominent role, the situation of ship collision has been curbed, but the number and scale of collisions is still worrisome. Continuous analysis to find the cause of the collision, taking measures to prevent the occurrence of accidents is our never outdated topic.Based on summing up the work of previous studies, the author try to make research on the relation between ship collision accident and rule-breaking operations, and hope to find out the impact degree of each rule-breaking operation to the collision. In this thesis, firstly, the author defines the meaning of each rule-breaking operation based on "Regulation for the Preventing Collision at Sea(COLREG)" and then establishes a new type of statistic model for ship collision accident which has used rule-breaking operations as its leafs. Secondly, the author makes detailed analysis to 168 reports for accident investigation by the model and obtains the occurrence number of all rule-breaking operations. Finally, the author makes data mining using grey correlation analysis, regression analysis and other quantitative analysis methods, and achieves the goal of this study. The results of this research have certain guiding significance for conducting collision avoidance and maritime security management.
