Research On The Analysis And Organic Renewal Of The Scale Of Old Beijing

Nowadays,the advancement of urbanization is developing quickly in China. With the increasing quantity of structural projects in the old city of Beijing, the form and structure of old city is suffering serious deterioration. Beijing is becoming similar with other modern cities more and more. How to solve the contradiction between protection and development of the old city on the lay of scale is the key content of this paper.Firstly, this paper sums up the concept of Scale and other factors, and pointed out the scale of old city is a kind of spatial shape essential factor which was formed throughout a lasting developing process of the city, and which adapt to the characteristic and life of the city. After analyzing factors influencing the scale of old city, this paper points out that the forming, evolution and changing of scale have their own reasons. The evaluation of scale is related closely to the people's feeling about scale.Next, based on the review about the developing process of Old Beijing, this paper makes a research about the scale of Old Beijing. The paper continues with an analysis on the three levels of the Scale——the city level, the street level, and the building level, and researches the present characteristic of the scale of Old Beijing and existent questions, aiming at setting up an integrated cognition system of the scale of Old Beijing.Change of the scale of Old Beijing is inevitable owing to social development. Therefore, in view of the above analysis, with the city"organic renewal"theory, this paper proposes the "organic renewal" of the scale of Old Beijing, and its content mainly includes continuation and renewal of the scale of Old Beijing. The continuation of the scale of Old Beijing is to establish a scale controlling system of Old Beijing, and control the scale of construction on the different levels. At the same time, the controlling system and the index system should be built on the analysis of the scale and the variation of the scale of Old City. Meanwhile, in order to present the humanized advantage of the scale of Old Beijing in new condition, we should continue the connotation and essence of the scale of Old Beijing in city planning by the way of renewal and reformation of the scale of Old Beijing. The purpose is trying to retain and continue the unique city space shape, and the regional characteristics of Old Beijing as far as possible, with the development of Beijing.
